CLIENT: We recently moved into a rancher where the front of our house has a southern exposure. We would love you to create a front patio area beside the entrance breezeway that has some privacy.

MERLE: Using ornamental grasses for a semi private hedging feel, letting light pass through but enough height and mass to create a sense of place. The patio connects to the front entry of the home, as well as the driveway, so using the same hardscape materials for the patio was key to create a sense of harmony and cohesiveness with the existing elements. I used a set of 3 bright white planters to create a nice clean and bright modern to offset the greens, black and yellows in the surrounding new gardens.
